Tried to flag down car in middle of street thinking it was a taxi

The court heard that Duffy was standing in the middle of two lanes of traffic in William Street, Lurgan, close to midnight on Easter Sunday.

A defence solicitor said Duffy had been drinking for most of the day. He had pleaded guilty at the first opportunity.
District Judge Mervyn Bates noted the “level of vitriol” he hurled at police and said there was no excuse for this. However, he also noted that the defendant was a young man with a clear record. For disorderly behaviour he fined him £200 and for jaywalking £60. However, he refused him legal aid, saying he was in well-paid employment.
