Two Day team event coming to Prehen

Your team of four can be made up of any combination of ladies/gents, members/visitors. The format is pretty simple, your team’s two best scores (stableford points) counts at each hole and your total score for each day is added together to give your team’s overall score. If your team has a bad day don’t worry, there are day prizes up for grabs. Lunn’s are putting up a fantastic hole in one prize at the 8th, anyone who records a hole in one over the weekend will walk away with a fantastic watch to the value of £1,500. As well as the 8th hole there are also prizes for anyone who has a hole in one at any of the other par 3’s. The cost of entry is £20 per member and £25 per visitor, the visitor will also be able to avail of a free practice round on the Friday which represents exceptional value, so spread the word. While Alan Philson (10) was the proud winner of John Hasson’s President’s prize at Prehen on Saturday. He had 40 points in less than ideal conditions but the icing on the cake came from the fact that he already was a winner of a Captain’s prize and a golfer of the Year title, that made him one of a select band of golfers who have a grand slam to their name. Karl Doherty (15) took the runners up spot on a break of tie with Mickey Lynch (21) both players returning 39 points. Brian Burn (16) was fourth net with 37 points and Kealan Quigg (+1) had 39 points to take the gross prize. Eamon McCourt (11) was best in the 5-11 category with 36 points, Wyn Donnell (12) was best in category 12-17 on 35 points and Malachy Doherty (24) also had 35 points in the 18-28 division. The best veteran on the day was Martin McNulty (10) with 36 points and Gary McAvoy (4) from Foyle was best of the visitors on 36 points. The nines went to Andy Meenagh (12) with 22 points on the first nine and Vincent Devenney (10) took the back nine with 22 points also. Matthew Orr (12) was best of the Juniors on 42 points, Michael O’Hara (24) finished in second place and Lee McClelland (6) was the best gross winner. Lady Vice captain Marie Clifford (21) was the best lady on 38 points, Betty McBride (19) finished in second place on 36 points and Lou Peoples (25) took third place on 35 points. The President hosted a magnificent dinner in the clubhouse in the evening for his guests and the ‘craic’ was mighty especially when one of Ireland’s greatest country singers Philomena Begley gave an impromptu rendition of some of her most memorable hits. While Fiachra O’Flaherty (9) from Buncrana was the leading golfer in City of Derry’s Fleadh Cheoil Open played in blustery conditions on Thursday. Fiachra was steadiness personified in compiling 39 points, highlighted by a four point birdie three at the final hole. That finish was most important giving him the verdict over runner up Gary Brown (10) on a tie break. George Curry (11) took home yet another prize by finishing in third place with 38 points again on a count back. Kealan Quigg (+1) won the gross on 35 points. Best score of the day went to winner of the Junior section Ross Hunter (5) who had an impressive 40 points. Mathew Orr continued his great run of results by claiming first place with a fantastic 42 points over the long Prehen course, at Mr John Hasson’s President Prize for Juniors last week. Mathew, will play fellow junior Jordan Greer in the final of The Foyle Cup. Second placed went to Michael O’Hara after he scored 39 points and Lee McClelland claimed the gross prize, after scoring 31 points.
